The quarry is operated by Aberdeenshire Council and its main product is road metal for most of the western half of Deeside and beyond. Annual output fluctuates around 80,000 tons.

The rock is predominantly grey granite.

The quarry is home to some wildlife including Peregrine Falcons which regularly nest on the rock face and seem blissfully untroubled by the activity of the quarry. Obviously their nest site is left undisturbed.
